The Endless Mystery of What keeps Me Creating!
A reflection on art and human emotions
One thing that has always fascinated me is human emotions.
Not the emotions we openly talk about but the ones that quietly exist beneath the surface. The feelings we struggle to explain. The emotions that live between words. The contradictions we carry within ourselves.
I often find myself observing people and wondering what is going on inside their minds. What are they dreaming about? What are they afraid of? What are they carrying that nobody else can see?
It amazes me how two people can experience the same situation and feel completely different things. One person may see freedom where another sees uncertainty. One person may find comfort where another feels trapped. We all live in our own worlds, shaped by our memories, experiences, and emotions.
Perhaps that is why I am so drawn to creating art about human emotions. I don't create art to give answers. I create it because I am endlessly curious about the human experience.
I am fascinated by the emotions we hide. The conversations we rehearse in our heads but never say aloud. The dreams we protect. The fears we pretend do not exist. The silent hopes that keep us moving forward.
Some of the emotions that inspire me are difficult to name. They are not simply happiness or sadness. They are more complex than that. The feeling of missing a place you have never been. The strange loneliness that can exist even in a crowded room. The quiet pride of overcoming something nobody knew you were struggling with. The desire to be understood without having to explain yourself.
These emotions are invisible, yet they shape our lives every day.
As an artist, I often use symbols, stories and imagined worlds to explore these feelings. Sometimes a crown becomes self worth. Sometimes water becomes transformation. Sometimes a bird becomes freedom. The sculpture or painting may look like an object but for me it is always about a feeling.
I think art and emotions are deeply connected because both allow us to communicate things that words cannot fully capture. Some feelings are too large, too complicated or too personal to fit into a sentence. Art gives them a place to exist.
The more I learn about people, the more I realise how beautifully complex we are. We are full of contradictions. We can be strong and vulnerable, hopeful and afraid, lost and certain, all at the same time.
And maybe that is what fascinates me most. No matter how much I create, observe or learn, the human heart remains a mystery. There is always another emotion to explore, another story to understand, another layer beneath the surface waiting to be discovered.
That endless mystery is what keeps me creating.
